M3 Multimorbidity Index in Plaudit
Use the M3 Multimorbidity Index to review risks for a department's entire patient load or individual groups
The M3 Index is a multimorbidity index that is found to have better predictive power for mortality than the Charlson and Elixhauser indices that are already included in Plaudit.
M3's predictive power arises from summed beta coefficients for 55 condition groups, compared to 17 for Charlson and 31 for van Walraven.
M3 also has better predictive power than Charlson or Elixhauser for readmissions within a year, though not as strongly predictive as for mortality.
The initial 2017 paper describing the development and validation of the M3 score can be found here:
Journal of Clinical Epidemiology 92 (2017) 99-110
With M3 now added as a Plaudit risk score, departments can utilize M3 to assess overall departmental multimorbidity status compared to the national cohort, as well as individual risk scores for patients with complications or undergoing particular procedures.
